81% of UK HR Professionals Open To Embracing AI, But Concerns Remain

HR professionals in the U.K. are embracing AI to streamline processes, but concerns remain over job security, data risks, and maintaining the human touch.
UK HR Professionals Open To Embracing AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is steadily making its way into HR departments across the U.K., with new research revealing that a vast majority of HR professionals are open to adopting the technology.

According to latest State of Employee Engagement Report, 81% of HR professionals are receptive to using AI, with half expressing genuine excitement and interest in its potential.

HR’s Evolving Attitude Towards AI

The research, which surveyed over 640 HR professionals, including 335 from the U.K highlights a significant shift in mindset.

Compared to last year’s findings, where just over half of HR professionals were open to AI, this year’s results indicate growing enthusiasm as teams look for ways to streamline processes and optimize efficiency.

“We’re seeing a shift in how HR professionals are viewing AI,” says Steven Frost, CEO of WorkBuzz. “As time-poor HR teams seek new ways to manage their workloads effectively, AI is becoming an increasingly attractive solution.”

Key Concerns: The ‘Human’ Factor and Job Security

Despite the growing interest, HR professionals have valid concerns about AI’s impact. The report identifies three primary areas of hesitation:

  1. Losing the Human Touch: HR is inherently people-focused, and there’s worry that AI could depersonalize essential processes.
  2. Job Security: Some fear AI could automate roles to the point of reducing job opportunities.
  3. Data & Recruitment Risks: AI’s role in hiring raises questions about data security and the potential for algorithms to inflate candidates’ qualifications unfairly.

Frost acknowledges these concerns, stating, “It’s right to be cautious when introducing new technologies.

However, AI’s use in HR shouldn’t be stalled for fear of its impacts. Instead, organizations should conduct thorough risk assessments and establish proper guardrails to ensure responsible implementation.”

How AI is Transforming HR Workflows

Despite concerns, AI is already proving valuable in several key HR functions. The report highlights AI’s role in:

  • Automating Recruitment & Onboarding: AI-driven tools streamline candidate screening and onboarding processes, saving valuable time.
  • Enhancing Employee Experience: AI-powered platforms personalize learning and development opportunities, improving employee engagement.
  • Providing Data-Driven Insights: AI can analyze vast amounts of HR data to identify trends, predict workforce needs, and support strategic decision-making.

“AI is already taking HR operations to a whole new level,” Frost adds. “From automating processes to delivering deeper insights and curating personalized employee experiences, AI is allowing HR professionals to work more strategically and effectively.”

The Future: A Balanced Approach to AI in HR

While AI adoption in HR is gaining momentum, the key will be finding a balance between technology and the human element. Organizations that integrate AI thoughtfully, prioritizing ethical considerations and employee well-being, will be best positioned to leverage its full potential.

As AI continues to evolve, HR professionals who embrace its capabilities while maintaining a people-first approach will likely see the greatest success.
