About HR Stacks

HR Stacks is an independent review and comparison site for HR software. We help HR, people and finance teams find the right tools to hire, pay and manage their people, without wading through vendor sales pages.

What we do

Choosing HR software shouldn't mean booking ten demos to find out the price.

Most HR software is sold the same way: a polished website, a "contact sales" button and pricing that only appears after a call. Comparing two tools fairly can take weeks.

HR Stacks does that groundwork for you. We research HR, payroll, recruiting and global hiring software, read the pricing pages and terms, collect what real users say, and publish it in a format you can compare side by side.

The result is a shortlist you can trust before you talk to a single vendor, and a clear idea of the questions to ask when you do.

How we review

Every product is reviewed against the same rules, so a 4.3 in payroll means the same as a 4.3 in recruiting.

Evidence we use
  • Public user reviews
  • The vendor's own pricing, terms and documentation
  • Product demos, where available
Evidence we don't use
  • Vendor testimonials
  • Figures found only on third-party sites
  • Anything we couldn't verify. Unpublished fees stay marked as unpublished.
Why our scores often run lower than users'Users rate day-to-day use. We also score what shows up after signing: extra fees, slow escalations and missing integrations.
Eight factors, equal weight

Each factor counts for 12.5% of the overall score. Pricing and value and ease of use are scored on every product. The other six change with the category, so payroll tools are judged on payroll and recruiting tools on hiring.

Overall score=sum of eight factor scores÷ 8, rounded to one decimal

Questions about HR Stacks

Can't find your answer? Write to us.

What is HR Stacks?

An independent review site for HR, payroll, recruiting and Employer of Record software. We publish scored reviews, comparisons and alternatives to help teams build a shortlist.

Who writes the reviews?

Reviews are researched and written by the HR Stacks team, and edited by Manjuri Dutta or Alex Vate before they go live.

Can a vendor pay for a higher score?

No. Paid plans and sponsorship add visibility only, and sponsored placements are labelled. Scores come from the same eight-factor model for every product.

Is listing a product free?

Yes. Listing works on a freemium model: a basic listing is free, and vendors can pay for extra visibility. Payment never changes a ranking.

Why is your score lower than the rating users give?

Users mostly rate everyday use. We also score costs and problems that appear after signing, such as extra fees, slow support escalations and missing integrations.

How do I report outdated information?

Send the page link and what has changed through our contact page. We check it against the vendor's own documentation and update the review.
